Does hotspot/tethering work on travel eSIMs for a heavy work trip?

I'm heading to Berlin and Amsterdam for two weeks and will need to tether my laptop almost every day for video calls and file uploads. Can I use my eSIM's data as a hotspot, or do some plans block tethering? If it works, how much data should I realistically plan for?

Yes, our travel eSIM plans support hotspot/tethering on the same data allowance, with no separate tethering fee. Just note that tethered traffic counts against your plan exactly like phone data, so a laptop can burn through it much faster than your phone alone.

Worked fine for me on a week in Portugal tethering to my laptop. Video calls ate the most data by far, so I'd grab a bigger plan than you think you need and top up in-app if you run low.

One thing I learned the hard way: turn off automatic cloud backups and OS updates on your laptop before you start tethering. Mine quietly used a chunk of my plan syncing photos in the background.

For daily video calls plus uploads, a rough rule is 1 to 2 GB per working day, so two weeks could be 15 to 25 GB. Pick a plan in that range and remember you can add a top-up mid-trip without changing anything else.

I tether my phone to my laptop all the time on trips and it's been reliable across Europe. Battery drain on the phone is real though, so keep a power bank handy during long call days.

If your hotel wifi is decent, use it for the big uploads and save the eSIM hotspot for when you're out and about. Mixing the two stretched my plan way further than tethering everything.

Check your laptop's settings to cap streaming quality on calls, that alone cut my data use noticeably. Also worth testing the hotspot at home before you fly so there are no surprises.

Coverage was solid for me in both Berlin and Amsterdam, no issues tethering on trains between cities either. Just avoid leaving the hotspot running when you're not using it, it drains data and battery fast.
