Should I install my Turkey eSIM before I fly or wait until I land?

I'm heading to Istanbul next week and I'm not sure about the best timing for the eSIM. Should I install it at home before I leave, or wait until I'm actually in Turkey? I don't want to mess anything up or get charged extra.

Install it before you fly, ideally while you still have reliable home Wi-Fi, but leave the line turned off until you land. The plan only starts its validity window once it connects to a network in Turkey, so installing early costs you nothing.

I installed mine the night before my flight and it was seamless. Landed in Istanbul, flipped the line on, and had data within a minute.

Do it before you go. Airport Wi-Fi can be slow or require a code, and you don't want to be fiddling with settings while standing in the immigration queue.

Both work, but installing beforehand is safer because the QR code needs an internet connection to download. Once installed, just enable the line and turn on data roaming when you arrive, and it should attach automatically.

I waited until I landed and regretted it, the airport Wi-Fi kept dropping mid-install. Took me three tries. Learn from my mistake.

Installed at home, kept it disabled, enabled it on the tarmac in Antalya. Worked instantly. Just remember to keep your normal SIM as the default for calls.

One tip: label the eSIM something obvious like Turkey Trip so you don't mix it up with your primary line in the settings.

I've done it both ways and honestly it doesn't matter much as long as you have Wi-Fi somewhere. But pre-installing removes all the stress.
