Should I install my Turkey eSIM before I fly or wait until I land?

I'm heading to Istanbul next week and just bought an eSIM for Turkey. I'm not sure if I should install it at home before I leave or wait until I land. Will installing it early cause any problems?

We recommend installing the eSIM before you fly, but make sure to turn it on only after you land. Installation requires an internet connection, so it's easiest to do at home. Once you arrive, just enable the eSIM and it will connect automatically.

I installed mine a day before my trip and it was fine. Just remember to turn off your primary SIM's data roaming when you activate the eSIM to avoid charges.

I waited until I landed in Istanbul and used the airport Wi-Fi to install it. That worked too, but it was a bit stressful after a long flight. Next time I'll do it at home.

Installing early is no problem as long as you don't activate it. I've done it multiple times and it activates perfectly when you switch it on in Turkey.

To clarify: installation and activation are separate. You can install the eSIM anytime; it only activates when you turn it on in Turkey. So install before you leave for a smoother experience.

I always install before flying. It saves time and you can test that it's installed correctly. Just don't turn it on until you're there.

I installed mine at the gate before boarding. No issues at all. As soon as I landed and turned it on, I had data within a minute.

One tip: if you install before, label it clearly so you don't confuse it with your regular SIM. I named mine 'Turkey Trip' and it was easy to find.
