First time using eSIM for Japan trip - will it mess up my regular SIM?

I'm heading to Tokyo next month and just bought the Japan eSIM. I've never used an eSIM before and I'm worried about installing it before I leave. Will it conflict with my normal SIM card or mess up my phone's ability to call and text back home? Also, when exactly does it activate - on install or when I land?

Your regular SIM stays active for calls and texts - the eSIM just handles data. Install it before you fly and it will activate when you connect to a network in Japan. No need to remove your primary SIM.
